A while ago I talked about the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo, so today I shall talk about one of the most important monuments of this city: the Cathedral of San Salvador, Oviedo although I shall also write about the other equally important monuments of the city in future posts.
Oviedo Cathedral is not yet another monument; it is representative of Oviedo and, I would add, of Asturias too as it is the only cathedral in the Principality of Asturias.

Oviedo, one of the cleanest cities in Spain and the capital of the municipality that shares its name and capital of the Principality of Asturias, is located in the centre of the autonomous region in the hillsides of Mount Naranco.
This city was founded in 761 and ever since Oviedo continues to resist the passage of time, being witness to many historic events.
Oviedo is a culturally-rich city, having two active and important theatres: the Filarmónica and the famous Campoamor Theatre. The latter is host to the most important cultural event of the year, the Prince of Asturias Awards.

A while ago I talked about Segovia, well-known for its historic heritage which can be found in monuments such as: the Roman Aqueduct, the Fortress and the Cathedral. The latter is the focus of this article.
Segovia Cathedral or the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and of San Frutos, began construction in 1525 and was completed in 1768.

HISTORY: “SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST OF ARUCAS”
Dec 4, 2009 Architecture, Cathedral, Town, History, Church, Villages, Tourism
Arucas, found in the north of Gran Canaria island, is of great architectural and urban importance. Its old quarter has been declared of historic and artistic interest.
The most emblematic architectural piece of this city is the church of Saint John the Baptist. It was sculpted entirely by local stone masters and dates from 1909.
Anyone who visits this church may mistake it for a cathedral, which it is not. The cathedral of Gran Canaria is found in Vegueta (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
