Climate change is advancing rapidly and people are not doing anything to avoid it.

We are increasingly contaminating our environment and ever more trees are being chopped down, which means that there is more CO2 in the atmosphere and as a consequence the greenhouse effect is increasing. HISTORY: THE ROYAL PALACE OF MADRID

The Royal Palace of Madrid has its origins in the 9th century when the Muslim kingdom of Toledo built a fort which was later used by the kings of Castilla and on which the Fortress was built in the 16th century. It was destroyed in a fire in 1734 and Philip V of Spain wanted the new palace to be built on the same spot.

Today, the Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of His Majesty the King, although it is only used for State ceremonies. The present Royal family of Spain have lived in the Zarzuela Palace since 1962, Alphonse XIII being the last monarch to have lived there.

ROUTE: “PHILIP II CHAIR”

Today, we shall travel to Madrid to take a walk which runs through wonderful countryside and is of historic interest. This route was one that Philip II of Spain took to see, from his chair, how the work on the Escorial was proceeding; hence the name “Philip II Chair Route”.

This route is perfect for expert and amateur ramblers, as it is very easy although there are parts that are harder because of the climb. For nature-lovers this is a must-do route which they will thoroughly enjoy.
