Beaches: Las Canteras Beach

Las Canteras Beach, is one of the few European beaches that are set in a city and where swimming is permitted 365 days a year.
The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has the privilege of having such a beach, but one that has a couple of features that makes it simply perfect: the rich marine life it holds and in particular, the reef that protects the beach from the rough sea. The locals call this rocky formation “La Barra” (the bar), which you can easily get to when it is low tide.

In previous articles I wrote about a few beaches. But summertime is not just about beaches, it is also a time to enjoy some wonderful walks.
A good example is the walk recommended in today’s article, a perfect combination of a bit of hill-walking with a stroll along a beach or two… as the route runs through the beaches of: Cuevas del Mar (Caves of the Sea) and San Antonio del Mar (St. Anthony of the Sea)
It’s a very short walk but it is also quite lovely. You’ll soon be enjoying fresh air, nature and fauna…
As you move uphill along the trail, you will see the amazing cliffs of the area where you’ll find the Shrine of Saint Anthony, set in the Cabo de Mar (Sea Cove).

BEACHES: GUADAMÍA BEACH

As many of you will know, the east coast of Asturias is of unparallel beauty, which explains why this area is chosen as the setting for film shoots.
Thanks to film, we know of a lot of hidden corners along the coast of eastern Asturias, but there are still quite many that are not so well known. A clear example is Guadamía Beach, found in the municipality of Llanes.
The municipalities of Ribadesella and Llanes are divided along the coast by the River Guadamía, which gives its name to this lovely beach.
The access to Guadamía Beach is very good and can be reached by car – well not right up to the beach itself, you have to walk down some 50m to it. Frankly, it’s a beach that even if I had to walk several kilometres to get there, I would do so with pleasure. As always, there is a map at the end of the article where you’ll find this beach in Llanes.

The municipality of Villaviciosa is rich in nature, but today we want to talk about the beach of Merón, one of the many beaches you can find along the coast of this municipality; Rodiles beach is the most well-known of the area. Leer más »

NATURE: “FINISTERRE, THE END OF THE WORLD”
Jan 20, 2010 Activities, Galicia, History, Sea, Nature, Villages, Tourism, Cultured Tourism, Natural Tourism
La Costa de la Muerte (The Coast of Death) in Galicia is well-known, especially by sailors, as this part of the coast has caused and continues to cause many shipwrecks. But this post is not about the negative side of this coast, but of a particular area, Finisterre.
The cape of Finisterre is on La Costa de la Muerte. As we have just mentioned, its name reflects the high number of ships that have sunk along this coastline. However, to think that this beautiful, steep and craggy coastline could be the cause of so many shipwrecks is something of a paradox.
