Nature: Guayadeque Gully

When I first wrote about this series of articles on Gran Canaria, I mentioned that this island is a lot more than just beaches… So here is one of the places that proves what I’m saying: the Guayadeque Gully.
The Guayadeque Gully is one of the largest on the Canary Islands and the natural separation between the municipalities of Ingenio and Agüimes is of great archaeological importance, given that this was the most populated area of the island in ancient times.
This spectacular place is amazingly beautiful: you can clearly see how the climate has eroded the land, exposing a very wild landscape; ochre hues, indigenous flora, the conservation of ancient settlements in caves (now used as homes)… all this – and more – has led to the Guayadeque Gully to be named the “Guayadeque Nature Reserve” but it was later reclassified as “Natural Monument” (which is the name it holds today). Ávila, the walled city.
I have passed by Ávila several times either because of sport or work and I have often wondered what there might be beyond these city walls as I drive by.
I finally found the moment to pass through this immense wall and visit every nook and cranny of this city and also film the video included in this article to show you what this marvellous walled city is like. This city was also declared a World Heritage in 1985.
If only the walls could speak! How many stories they would tell! The wall, by the way, is in perfect condition. Leer más »

As many of you will know, Turismo Natural is a great fan of nature and we shall always try to tell you about new places to discover.
Today I shall talk about the Leza Canyon Viewpoint which is in Camero Viejo, in La Rioja.
You can get to the Leza Canyon Viewpoint either along the main road or the path that joins Soto de Cameros with the viewpoint. The route is short but very beautiful as it runs along the gorge.

In the heart of Camero Viejo, found in the wine region of Rioja, there are several charming villages to visit: Soto en Cameros, San Román de Cameros and Velilla.
These three villages are in the middle of the countryside, on the banks of the River Leza, and are in keeping with their environment.
It is the perfect place to do rural tourism, where you will have the possibility of walking in the countryside, do some hillwalking, learn about the history, culture or gastronomy of the place and much more.

HISTORY: “CHURCH OF SAN MIGUEL DE LILLO”
Feb 1, 2010 Architecture, Asturias, Capitals, Town, Towns, Culture, History, Church, Monument, Monuments, Oviedo, Tourism, Asturias Tourism, Cultured Tourism, Unesco
A while ago I talked about Oviedo, the capital of the Principality of Asturias; today I shall talk about a pre-Romanesque church called San Miguel de Lillo which lies within the city surroundings, in the hillside of Mount Naranco. This mount is also home to another monument of special interest, the church of Santa María del Naranco, but I shall keep that for a separate post.
As mentioned, San Miguel de Lillo is a pre-Romanesque church and its construction was ordered by king Ramiro I in honour of Saint Michael Archangel in 842.
