In the municipality of Villaviciosa (Asturias) lies one of the best conserved estuaries and one of the richest environmentally that exists along the Cantabrian coast: the Estuary of Villaviciosa.
In 1995 it was included in the Regional Network of Protected Natural Spaces of the Principality of Asturias, earning the status of Partial Natural Reserve.
The Estuary of Villaviciosa holds great importance for ornithologists and bird enthusiasts, given that various types of birds live in this Partial Natural Reserve and an infinite number of migratory birds stop here to rest during their flights.
This estuary is also a perfect place to practice water sports such as sailing, canoeing, windsurf…
If we realise the amount of life that lives in and depends on the Estuary of Villaviciosa, we will realise the importance of it as a Partial Natural Reserve.
