ROUTES: CUEVAS DEL MAR BEACH – SAN ANTONIO DEL MAR BEACH

In previous articles I wrote about a few beaches. But summertime is not just about beaches, it is also a time to enjoy some wonderful walks.

A good example is the walk recommended in today’s article, a perfect combination of a bit of hill-walking with a stroll along a beach or two… as the route runs through the beaches of: Cuevas del Mar (Caves of the Sea) and San Antonio del Mar (St. Anthony of the Sea)

It’s a very short walk but it is also quite lovely. You’ll soon be enjoying fresh air, nature and fauna…

As you move uphill along the trail, you will see the amazing cliffs of the area where you’ll find the Shrine of Saint Anthony, set in the Cabo de Mar (Sea Cove).

As you arrive to San Antonio del Mar beach, don’t go down directly; stop for a stroll along the cliffs next to the shrine. You will be impressed!

If you are lucky with the weather when you decide to do this walk and there is no mist, you’ll be able to see a large portion of the Asturian coastline from the cliff-tops along the Cantabrian Sea. Oh! And when you go back southwards to San Antonio del Mar beach, look up and you’ll see the Picos de Europa, (Europa Peaks), and you’ll be able to make out Picu Urriellu or Naranjo de Bulnes.
