Asturias is a water-rich land and Man has long used the natural force of this element to carry out certain labours, such as milling maize.
Evidence of this is found along the Route of Profundu (Villaviciosa – Asturias), where you can find a range of mills which were used by farmers to mill maize.
The route runs through the countryside, along beautiful forests and waterfalls where you can relax in the heart of nature. It is considered as having of great ethnographic, cultural and natural interest.
This Mill Route joins the villages of Buslaz and Valbucar, but I recommend you do the route from Valbucar to Buslaz, as a personal preference.
The Route of Profundu is well signed and it isn’t a route of great difficulty. Although…do walk it with the appropriate footwear.
