A while ago I talked about the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo, so today I shall talk about one of the most important monuments of this city: the Cathedral of San Salvador, Oviedo although I shall also write about the other equally important monuments of the city in future posts.
Oviedo Cathedral is not yet another monument; it is representative of Oviedo and, I would add, of Asturias too as it is the only cathedral in the Principality of Asturias.

Oviedo, one of the cleanest cities in Spain and the capital of the municipality that shares its name and capital of the Principality of Asturias, is located in the centre of the autonomous region in the hillsides of Mount Naranco.
This city was founded in 761 and ever since Oviedo continues to resist the passage of time, being witness to many historic events.
Oviedo is a culturally-rich city, having two active and important theatres: the Filarmónica and the famous Campoamor Theatre. The latter is host to the most important cultural event of the year, the Prince of Asturias Awards.
