CULTURE: The sacred YEW tree

Monumento Natural

The value of the yew tree lies in its age, (it can be hundreds of years old), in its link to past generations that grew up around it since it was first planted and in everything that was important to an Atlantic Europe where village life was centred on the yew tree.

The yew tree was the meeting place for villagers, a sacred place where assemblies were held, laws were made and feasts were had.

For many people today it continues to be a symbol and a living legacy that we must conserve, recover and transmit to future generations.
