Many people choose to visit Asturias, particularly for rural and activity based tourism especially because both can be combined to offer a great variety of possibilities, such as the route I shall show you here. It’s a short route, of low difficulty, apt for everyone, and where you’ll enjoy both hill-walking, nature and a wonderful day out on the border of civilisation. I’ll talk about the route that runs through the Vega de Orandi until Covadonga and I’ll show you a video with some corners which you can enjoy on your walk.
The entire route runs through the National Park of the Picos de Europa, where you’ll find rocky paths, forests and meadows.
We begin our adventure in Moferos, 4km from Covagadonga on the road that will take us to the Lakes of Covadonga. Leer más »

The region of Asturias offers many tourist attractions, one of the most important being the Picos de Europa National Park. Within this national park there is a good access road that leads to the Enol LakeErcina Lake and , more popularly known as the Lakes of Covadonga.
Many of you will have visited the Lakes of Covadonga, but I am sure that some of you will not know all the amazing secrets that this landscape offers – the many routes that begin in the Lakes of Covadonga… A clear example of this are the mines of Buferrera; I didn’t discover them until I was taken along a route that passed the mine and which left me quite surprised! NATURE: THE MINE OF BUFERRERA.

Today I shall tell you about a mine that lays in the midst of the National Park of the Picos de Europa, found near the Lakes of Covadonga: The Mine of Buferrera.
The mine of Buferrera dates from 1868 and it was used for the extraction of minerals such as iron and manganese. The road that today leads to the Lakes of Covadonga did not exist in those days and miners had to carry the minerals down the mountainside on their shoulders or on beasts of burden, covering some 12km in distance and a drop of 800m between this mine and Covadonga.

Jan 7, 2010 Activities, Asturias, Sports, Mountain, Nature, Leisure, Landscapes, Parres, Routes, Hiking, Tourism, Asturias Tourism
Today we shall go on a rather short excursion, good for first-time hillwakers although you can also do this route by bicycle.
This route runs through part of the Ruta de la Verde (Green Route). We can start our excursion from any point in Arriondas, but today we shall start from the Plaza Venancio Pando, where you can visit the famous Arriondas canon and the town hall of the municipality of Parres.
Once we begin our walk, we move along Fuentes road in the direction of Pendás, from where we will have spectacular views of the Picos de Europa, the River Sella and the capital of the municipality of Parres, Arriondas. We cross the village of Pendás until we get to the end of the road where we will reach the Fuente de Arpaes (Fountain of Arpaes) (the path from the end of the road to the fountain is cemented).
