A while ago I talked about Segovia, well-known for its historic heritage which can be found in monuments such as: the Roman Aqueduct, the Fortress and the Cathedral. The latter is the focus of this article.
Segovia Cathedral or the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and of San Frutos, began construction in 1525 and was completed in 1768.

Segovia is the capital of the province that shares its name in the autonomous region of Castilla & León, and lies at the base of the ‘Sierra de Guadarrama’.
Because of its position along transhumance routes, Segovia became an important centre for wool and textile production throughout the 12th century.

HISTORY: “FORTRESS OF SEGOVIA”

This colossal monument dates between the 11th – 19th century and it was built on the ruins of a Roman fortress. It was modified continuously from Alfonso VI of Spain until Felipe II of Spain.
During the Middle Ages, the Fortress of Segovia was used as a residence for the Kings of Castilla.

The most emblematic and best-conserved monument in Segovia that the Romans built on the Iberian Peninsula is the Aqueduct of Segovia.
We are talking about – probably – the most significant monument of Segovia.
